European football secured after 30 yrs
On this day in 2025 Forest secure European football after drawing with Leicester City.
Nottingham Forest secured European qualification for the first time in 30 years after drawing 2-2 with Leicester City at the City Ground.
Forest had been chasing Champions League qualification, but the draw still guaranteed the club a return to European competition. Morgan Gibbs-White scored Forest’s first goal before creating the second, sending in a delivery that found Chris Wood as he peeled away from his marker to head in his 20th Premier League goal of the season.
Leicester came back late, damaging Forest’s hopes of finishing in the Champions League places. Even so, the result confirmed that Forest would play European football the following season.
For many supporters, the achievement carried huge emotional weight. Forest had not qualified for Europe since the mid-1990s, and the 2-2 draw marked the moment that one of the club’s longest modern waits finally ended.
