Leeds seven-goal finale victory
On this day in 1991 Forest beat Leeds in a seven-goal finale.
Nottingham Forest ended their First Division season with a chaotic 4-3 win over Leeds United at the City Ground.
The match came one week before the FA Cup final, but it refused to feel like a quiet closing fixture. Forest started sharply, with Garry Parker and Nigel Clough both scoring inside the opening ten minutes to give Brian Clough’s side early control.
Leeds kept the contest alive, but Forest had the finishing power to answer. Parker scored again in the second half, and Clough added another late goal to complete his own double and give Forest the decisive edge in a seven-goal match.
For supporters, it was a lively send-off before Wembley. Forest had finished the league campaign with goals, noise and a reminder of the attacking quality in the team.
The defensive looseness was obvious, but so was the entertainment. Before the pressure of the cup final, the City Ground had one last wild afternoon to enjoy.
