Blackpool end promotion hopes
On this day in 2010 Forest lose the Championship play-off semi-final to Blackpool.
Nottingham Forest’s promotion challenge ended in dramatic fashion as Blackpool won 4-3 at the City Ground and took the Championship play-off semi-final 6-4 on aggregate.
Forest were trying to recover from a 2-1 first-leg defeat at Bloomfield Road, and twice gave themselves hope through Robert Earnshaw. His first goal put Forest ahead on the night, and his second restored their lead after Blackpool had levelled.
The tie then swung away from Forest in a brutal spell. Blackpool equalised again, then struck twice in quick succession to take control of the aggregate score and leave the City Ground stunned.
Dele Adebola scored in stoppage time, but by then the goal was only a consolation. The 4-3 defeat on the night and 6-4 aggregate loss sent Blackpool to Wembley, while many Forest supporters stood in disbelief at the end of a painful play-off collapse.
