Renan Lodi’s Nottingham Forest league debut came on a difficult night as Manchester City won 6–0 at the Etihad Stadium.

The Brazilian full-back had joined from Atlético Madrid on a season-long loan, in a deal reported to include a loan fee and an option to buy. His debut came almost immediately, away to one of the strongest sides in Europe.

Forest were overwhelmed by Manchester City’s attacking power with Erling Haaland scoring a first-half hat-trick and Julian Álvarez scoring twice as the match became one of the harshest early reminders of Premier League life after promotion.

Lodi’s Forest spell later settled into something more useful than this debut suggested. He made regular appearances during the 2022-23 season and scored in the League Cup win over Tottenham, but Forest did not make the loan permanent. He returned to Atlético Madrid and then joined Marseille in July 2023.
