Formation plaque unveiled at Playwright
On this day in 2019 a plaque marks the former Clinton Arms site linked to Forest’s formation.
A commemorative plaque was unveiled at The Playwright, the Nottingham pub site linked to the formation of Nottingham Forest.
The building had previously been the Clinton Arms, where a group of shinney players met in 1865 before the club’s story began. For supporters, the plaque gave a physical marker to a piece of history that had often lived through stories and local memory.
The unveiling was arranged for a matchday, allowing fans to connect the modern club with the place where its origins are traditionally traced. It was a small civic moment rather than a football result, but it mattered because it brought the club’s beginnings back into everyday view.
The plaque helped turn a city-centre wall into a reminder of Forest’s roots. For an app built around daily history, it is exactly the kind of event that links the club’s identity to Nottingham itself.
