Brennan Johnson signs new deal
On this day in Nottingham Forest history in 2022 Brennan Johnson signs a new four-year Forest contract.
Brennan Johnson committed his future to Nottingham Forest shortly after becoming one of the central figures in the club’s Premier League return.
His new four-year contract arrived at a moment of excitement and urgency. Forest had just won promotion through the Championship play-offs, and Johnson’s pace, direct running and confidence had made him one of the players supporters were most eager to see stay.
The deal also carried emotional weight because Johnson was an academy graduate. His rise had given Forest fans a homegrown player to connect with during one of the most important modern seasons in the club’s history.
In the end, the contract became part of a short but important Premier League chapter rather than a long-term stay. Johnson helped Forest survive their first season back in the top flight, then moved to Tottenham Hotspur in September 2023 for a major fee.
For supporters, the renewal still mattered. It showed Forest entering the Premier League with one of their brightest young players still wearing red, even if his growing value eventually made him one of the club’s biggest modern sales.
