Spence March awards treble

On this day in 2022 Djed Spence completes a March awards treble.

Honours and awards

Individual awards tied to a competition

Djed Spence completed a remarkable March awards treble after his outstanding form during Nottingham Forest’s promotion season.

The Middlesbrough loanee had already been named Sky Bet Championship Player of the Month for March and had also won the Championship Goal of the Month award for his long-range strike against Queens Park Rangers. He then added the EFL Young Player of the Month award, underlining how important he had become in Forest’s promotion push.

Spence’s pace and confidence from wing-back gave Steve Cooper’s side a different kind of attacking threat. He was not only defending his flank; he was carrying Forest up the pitch, stretching opponents and adding energy to a team that had gathered serious momentum.

The awards mattered because they captured the mood of that spring. Forest were no longer just recovering from a poor start to the season. They were attacking the promotion race with belief, and Spence had become one of the faces of that surge.

For supporters, the treble felt like outside recognition of something they had already seen clearly: Spence was thriving, and Forest were moving with him.
