Win at Man Utd after cup final
On this day in 1992 Forest win at Old Trafford after League Cup final defeat.
Nottingham Forest responded to League Cup final disappointment by beating Manchester United 2-1 at Old Trafford eight days later.
Ian Woan gave Forest the lead in the first half, scoring after 33 minutes, before United drew level soon afterwards. The match was still alive deep into the second half, but Scot Gemmill struck with ten minutes left to give Forest a sharp away victory over the same opponent who had beaten them at Wembley.
Old Trafford was never an easy place to win, and the timing gave the result extra bite. The league meeting arrived while the cup final frustration was still fresh, so victory carried more feeling than an ordinary away result.
For Forest, the result showed resilience after a painful final and gave supporters a very different memory against the same club. They had lost the trophy, then gone to Manchester and answered with a league victory.
