Massive 7-0 win over Chelsea
On this day in 1991 Forest beat Chelsea 7-0 at the City Ground.
Nottingham Forest produced a ruthless City Ground performance by beating Chelsea 7-0 in League Division One.
The match was effectively taken away from Chelsea early. Roy Keane opened the scoring after eight minutes, Garry Parker quickly added another, and Ian Woan made it 3-0 before the half-hour. Forest had turned a league fixture into a rout before the visitors had found any way into the afternoon.
The goals kept coming after the break. Nigel Clough scored early in the second half, Stuart Pearce drove Forest further clear with two left-footed finishes, and Keane added his second late on. A seven-goal home win against Chelsea stood out even in a season where Forest also reached the FA Cup final.
For supporters, a 7-0 victory offered a rare kind of release. Most league wins are built around control, tension or late relief; this one became memorable because of the sheer scale of the margin.
The match remains one of the clearest examples of Forest’s attacking power in that period. Chelsea were beaten heavily, the City Ground had a result to savour, and the scoreline still carries the weight of a record-style afternoon.
