Hughton in after Lamouchi sacking
On this day in 2020 Forest appoint Chris Hughton as manager after dismissing Sabri Lamouchi.
Chris Hughton arrived at Forest with the club needing calm, structure and results after a damaging start to the Championship season.
Sabri Lamouchi had been dismissed earlier the same day, only months after Forest’s painful collapse out of the play-off places. Hughton brought a strong reputation from previous jobs, particularly for organisation and promotion experience, and his appointment looked like an attempt to steady a squad that had lost direction.
The timing gave the move extra weight. Forest were not simply changing manager after a poor run; they were trying to recover from a psychological blow that had carried over from the end of the previous campaign.
Hughton’s spell did not become the reset supporters hoped for. Results remained poor, and he was dismissed the following year with Forest at the bottom of the Championship. Steve Cooper replaced him soon afterwards, changing the direction of the club dramatically.
