Pearce sacked after poor run
On this day in 2015 Forest sack Stuart Pearce after a poor run of Championship results.
Stuart Pearce’s return to Forest ended with disappointment after a poor Championship run cost him the manager’s job.
Pearce’s appointment had carried emotional weight because of his playing history at the club. Supporters knew him as one of Forest’s great modern figures, but that connection could not protect the team from results. A run of six defeats in seven matches left the club sliding badly and forced the board into a change.
The decision was especially painful because Pearce had arrived with goodwill. His reputation as a committed, honest Forest figure gave the spell a different feeling from many managerial appointments, but the Championship table told a harsher story.
Dougie Freedman was appointed quickly after Pearce’s dismissal, underlining the urgency around the club’s position. Pearce’s short managerial return is remembered as a sad modern chapter: a popular former captain came back hoping to lift Forest, but left with the club still searching for stability.
