Webb & Cooper sink Man City
On this day in Nottingham Forest history in 1993 Neil Webb and Colin Cooper score late as Forest beat Manchester City in a League Cup replay.
Nottingham Forest turned a difficult League Cup replay at Maine Road into a late away win, beating Manchester City 2-1 to keep their cup run alive.
City had led through Michel Vonk, leaving Forest with work to do in the second half. Frank Clark’s side stayed in the tie, with Mark Crossley, Stuart Pearce, Steve Chettle and Colin Cooper part of a team trying to build momentum after relegation from the Premier League.
The match turned late. Neil Webb brought Forest level after 74 minutes, and Cooper then struck in the 87th minute to complete the comeback. For a replay away from home, that was a strong finish under pressure.
The win sent Forest into the League Cup quarter-finals, where they later drew 1-1 with Tranmere Rovers at the City Ground before going out 2-0 in the replay at Prenton Park.
