Crosby sets up ZDS final
On this day in Nottingham Forest history in 1992 Forest beat Leicester City to reach the ZDS Cup final.
Nottingham Forest booked another Wembley appearance by beating Leicester City 2–0 at the City Ground in the second leg of the Zenith Data Systems Cup Northern Area final.
The first leg at Filbert Street had finished 1–1, leaving the tie finely balanced. Back in Nottingham, Forest made home advantage count, with Darren Wassall and Andy Crosby scoring to secure a 3–1 aggregate win.
The ZDS Cup was not one of the traditional major competitions, but it still carried the pull of Wembley and gave supporters another knockout occasion to follow. Beating Leicester added a local edge to the night and made the route to the final feel sharper.
Forest went on to face Southampton at Wembley and won the final 3–2 after extra time. Scot Gemmill scored twice, including the winner, as Forest turned the Leicester semi-final victory into another cup success under Brian Clough.
