NOTTINGHAM FOREST HISTORY
Peter Taylor dies in Spain
On this day in Nottingham Forest history in 1990 Peter Taylor dies in Spain aged 62.
Peter Taylor’s death in Spain brought a sad close to one of the most important coaching lives in Nottingham Forest history.
Taylor had been Brian Clough’s assistant, recruiter and tactical partner during the club’s greatest era. Together, they helped turn Forest from a Second Division side into champions of England and then back-to-back European Cup winners.
His value was never only in the dugout. Taylor had a sharp eye for players, character and balance, helping to shape the squad that made Forest so difficult to beat in the late 1970s.
By 1990, his working relationship with Clough had long since ended, but his place in the club’s history was secure. For supporters, Taylor’s death at 62 was a reminder that Forest’s miracle years had been built by more than one extraordinary football mind.
