NOTTINGHAM FOREST HISTORY
Withe scores four against Ipswich
On this day in Nottingham Forest history in 1977 Peter Withe scores four as Forest beat Ipswich Town 4–0.
Peter Withe delivered one of the great individual scoring nights of Forest’s title-winning season when Ipswich Town were beaten 4–0 at the City Ground.
Withe scored all four Forest goals, turning a difficult First Division fixture into a statement victory against a strong Ipswich side managed by Bobby Robson. John Robertson supplied crosses for the first two goals, while Martin O’Neill was involved in the fourth.
The result sent Forest back to the top of the First Division. For a newly promoted club, that was already remarkable, but the win also carried the feel of a side discovering just how far it might go.
Withe’s goals were vital in the early surge of the campaign. He would not be part of the later European Cup triumphs, but this night remains one of his clearest Forest moments: four goals, Ipswich swept aside, and the title charge pushed forward.
