Jemson goal retains League Cup
On this day in 1990 Forest win back-to-back League Cups.
Nottingham Forest retained the League Cup by beating Oldham Athletic 1-0 at Wembley.
Nigel Jemson scored the only goal, giving Forest the decisive moment in a final settled by a narrow margin. His first effort was saved, but he followed up and drove the rebound low into the net, turning one chance into the goal that kept the trophy with Brian Clough’s side.
Finals often turn on a single moment, and this one gave Forest another major domestic trophy. They had lifted the League Cup in 1989 and returned to Wembley a year later to keep it, showing the club’s strength in knockout football during that period.
For supporters, the afternoon brought a familiar Wembley feeling: tension, one Forest goal, and silverware at the end of it. Oldham were beaten, the League Cup was retained, and Forest had another trophy to add to the Clough era.
