Parker goal clinches Spurs victory
On this day in 1989 Forest win 3–2 at Tottenham with goals from Nigel Clough, Gary Crosby and Garry Parker.
Nottingham Forest won 3–2 away to Tottenham Hotspur in the First Division, with Nigel Clough, Gary Crosby and Garry Parker scoring at White Hart Lane.
Tottenham struck first through Gary Lineker, but Forest turned the match before half-time. Nigel Clough equalised in the 27th minute and Gary Crosby put Forest ahead three minutes later, changing the shape of the afternoon quickly.
Garry Parker added Forest’s third in the second half. Lineker scored again for Tottenham, but Forest’s three goals were enough to secure an impressive away win.
The result sits as a strong late-December win from Brian Clough’s later Forest years. The club would finish ninth in the league that season and go on to retain the League Cup in 1990, keeping another piece of silverware in the City Ground trophy story.
