Walsh hat-trick wins at Norwich
On this day in 1983 Colin Walsh scores a hat-trick as Forest win 3-2 at Norwich City.
Nottingham Forest came through a dramatic First Division match at Carrow Road, beating Norwich City 3-2 away from home.
The game had the shape of a difficult afternoon. Norwich scored through Keith Bertschin and John Deehan, with Deehan’s goal coming from the penalty spot, but Forest stayed in the contest through Colin Walsh.
Walsh scored all three Forest goals, turning the match into one of the standout individual scoring days of his Forest career. He first equalised from the penalty spot before adding a second goal before half-time to make it 2-2. Walsh then completed his hat-trick with the winning goal in the 65th minute, a brave diving header that left him injured and needing to be carried from the field.
Away wins in five-goal matches rarely feel routine, and this one gave Forest a result that combined resilience with a memorable personal performance. Under Brian Clough, Forest were still a side capable of unsettling opponents away from the City Ground, and Walsh’s hat-trick made the trip to Norwich one worth remembering.
