Anderson sold for record fee
On this day in 2026 Forest agree a British-record £116m sale of Elliot Anderson to Manchester City.
Nottingham Forest agreed to sell Elliot Anderson to Manchester City in a £116m deal, creating the largest outgoing transfer in the club’s history and, at the time, the highest fee paid for a British player.
Anderson had joined Forest from Newcastle United in 2024 and quickly became one of the most popular players at the City Ground. His energy, determination and willingness to take responsibility made him a natural favourite with supporters, while his quality on the ball helped transform the Forest midfield.
He played a major part in two outstanding seasons for the club. Anderson helped Forest qualify for European football in 2024-25 and then reach the Europa League semi-finals the following campaign. In 2025-26, he appeared in all 38 Premier League matches, starting 37 of them, and contributed four goals and four assists.
Statistics only told part of the story. Anderson covered enormous ground, won tackles, carried the ball through midfield and rarely stopped competing. He produced the kind of committed performances that Forest supporters immediately connected with and grew into one of the team’s most influential players.
The record fee showed just how far Anderson had developed during his two years at Forest. His departure was a huge loss, but he left with the gratitude and affection of supporters after helping the club create some unforgettable modern memories.
