Omobamidele leaves for Strasbourg
On this day in Nottingham Forest history in 2025 Forest confirm Andrew Omobamidele’s permanent transfer to Strasbourg.
Andrew Omobamidele’s permanent move to Strasbourg closed a short Forest chapter that had never quite become settled.
Forest confirmed the transfer after the Republic of Ireland defender had already spent the second half of the previous season with the French club on loan. The permanent deal gave him a clearer route to regular football, while Forest moved on from a player who had arrived with promise but found first-team opportunities limited.
Omobamidele had joined Forest from Norwich City in 2023 and made 15 appearances for the club in all competitions. He was young, highly rated and already an international defender, but competition for places made it difficult for him to establish himself at the City Ground.
RTE reported that the Strasbourg fee was in the region of €8m. The move gave Omobamidele the chance to build momentum in Ligue 1 rather than remain on the edge of Forest’s squad.
For Forest, the transfer was less dramatic than some departures, but it still marked a decision on a player whose potential had not fully turned into a regular role.
