Sammy Ameobi joins from Bolton
On this day in Nottingham Forest history in 2019 Forest sign Sammy Ameobi after his departure from Bolton Wanderers.
Sammy Ameobi joined Forest after leaving Bolton Wanderers, giving the squad another attacking option ahead of the 2019-20 Championship season.
The winger arrived on a free transfer and signed a one-year contract. He brought experience from Newcastle United, Bolton and earlier loan spells, and Forest were looking for width and extra attacking options.
His first season became more productive than a simple squad-depth signing might have suggested. Ameobi made 45 league appearances and scored five league goals in 2019-20, becoming a regular part of a side that spent much of the campaign chasing a play-off place.
He stayed for the following season as well, making 32 further league appearances and scoring three more league goals before leaving on a free transfer to Middlesbrough in June 2021.
The signing is remembered as a practical Championship move that gave Forest two seasons of useful service rather than a headline arrival.
