Nottingham Forest confirmed that Taiwo Awoniyi was recovering after urgent surgery on a serious abdominal injury sustained against Leicester City.

The injury came late in Forest’s 2-2 Premier League draw at the City Ground, when Awoniyi collided with the goalpost while trying to reach a cross. The incident quickly became the central concern after the final whistle, moving attention away from the result and back toward the player’s wellbeing.

For Forest, the news landed heavily because Awoniyi had become an important figure in the squad. In football terms, losing a forward of his importance was a serious blow. In human terms, the priority was simply that he recovered safely.

For supporters, the update changed the mood around the Leicester match. The draw had already damaged Forest’s Champions League hopes, but Awoniyi’s surgery made the occasion feel more uncomfortable. It was remembered less for the result than for the worry around one of the club’s key players.
