City Ground capacity boost
On this day in 2024 City Ground redevelopment work increases capacity before Forest’s Premier League home opener.
Nottingham Forest prepared to welcome their biggest Premier League crowd at the City Ground after multi-million-pound redevelopment work increased capacity and improved facilities.
The project came before the 2024-25 home opener and reflected the pressure created by Premier League demand. Forest had returned to the top flight in 2022, stayed up, and continued to play in front of a home support that made tickets difficult to obtain.
The work increased capacity to more than 30,400, with safe standing installed in the Bridgford Stand and new hospitality areas added. It was not the full long-term redevelopment of the stadium, but it was a visible step in adapting the ground to the club’s modern Premier League reality.
For supporters, the significance was practical as well as symbolic. More seats meant more people could be inside the City Ground for top-flight football, while the changes also showed the club trying to modernise without leaving its historic home.
The wider stadium debate would continue, but this upgrade gave the 2024-25 season a clear opening marker: a larger City Ground ready for another Premier League campaign.
