Lodi wins Carabao Cup goal award
On this day in 2022 Renan Lodi wins Carabao Cup Goal of the Round for his Tottenham strike.
Renan Lodi’s Carabao Cup strike against Tottenham Hotspur earned individual recognition after one of Forest’s strongest cup nights of the season.
The goal came in Forest’s 2-0 win over Spurs at the City Ground. Forest won possession back high up the pitch and worked the ball out to Lodi, who advanced, cut inside and curled a finish into the far corner past Fraser Forster. Jesse Lingard later added the second goal as Forest knocked Antonio Conte’s side out of the competition.
The award gave Lodi’s finish a spotlight of its own. It was not just a useful goal in a cup tie, but a clean, memorable moment from a player who had arrived on loan from Atlético Madrid during a season of heavy squad change.
Forest’s Carabao Cup run continued well beyond that night. The club reached the semi-finals before being beaten by Manchester United, but Lodi’s Tottenham goal remained one of the sharper images from that campaign.
