Steve Cook joins promotion squad
On this day in 2022 Forest sign Steve Cook from Bournemouth for the promotion-winning squad.
Steve Cook joined Nottingham Forest from AFC Bournemouth as Steve Cooper strengthened a squad that was beginning to look upward.
The signing brought experience, leadership and Championship know-how. Cook had spent a decade with Bournemouth, making hundreds of appearances and playing a major part in their rise, so Forest were adding a defender used to pressure and promotion demands.
The fee was undisclosed, but the purpose of the deal was clear. Forest needed reliable senior players around a fast-improving group, and Cook quickly became part of the defensive structure that carried the club through the second half of the season.
His contribution became tied to the promotion story. Cook played in the play-off final as Forest beat Huddersfield Town 1-0 at Wembley to return to the Premier League. He also remained involved the following season as the club fought to stay in the top flight. The signing was not flashy, but it fitted the needs of a team gathering momentum at exactly the right time.
