Garner & Yates sink Posh
On this day in Nottingham Forest history in 2021 James Garner and Ryan Yates score as Forest beat Peterborough United 2-0 in the Championship.
Nottingham Forest continued their rise towards promotion places under Steve Cooper with a 2-0 Championship win over Peterborough United at the City Ground.
The breakthrough came in the second half after good work from Braian Ojeda and Brennan Johnson. Johnson drove a low cross into the centre, Lewis Grabban could not get the ball out from under his feet, and James Garner reacted sharply to convert from close range in the 72nd minute.
Ryan Yates then made the points safe in the 84th minute. Garner whipped in a corner, and Yates managed to guide the ball off his chest across the line and into the net.
The win fitted neatly into the mood of that winter. Forest had looked lost earlier in the season, but Cooper’s arrival had changed the direction of travel. This was not the day promotion was won, but it was one of the steady home victories that helped turn belief into a genuine play-off push.
