Carvalho seals cup win over Derby
On this day in 2019 Forest beat Derby County 3–0 at the City Ground in the Carabao Cup second round.
Nottingham Forest enjoyed a convincing East Midlands derby night by beating Derby County 3–0 at the City Ground in the Carabao Cup.
The second-round tie gave Forest a chance to make progress in the competition while landing a sharp local blow. Albert Adomah opened the scoring, Joe Lolley added the second before half-time, and João Carvalho completed the win late on.
Adomah and Lolley each produced a goal and an assist in the first half, giving Forest control before Carvalho’s late strike sealed the victory. The scoreline gave the home crowd a clear cup win over their closest rivals rather than a tense derby decided by fine margins.
For Forest supporters, it was a satisfying modern derby result. The League Cup setting did not lessen the feeling of the night, because a 3–0 win over Derby at the City Ground always carried its own weight. Forest’s run ended in the next round, when Arsenal beat them 5–0 at the Emirates Stadium.
