Fans unveil Rise of the Garibaldi display
On this day in 2017 supporter group Forza Garibaldi unveiled its first major Trent End display before Forest played Millwall.
Forza Garibaldi, the Nottingham Forest supporter group known for creating banners, flags and atmosphere at the City Ground, unveiled its first major Trent End display before Forest’s Championship opener against Millwall.
The display was titled “Rise of the Garibaldi” and marked an important step in the group’s development from a supporter idea into a visible matchday movement. It helped show how Forest fans could use coordinated displays to celebrate the club’s identity and improve the atmosphere inside the ground.
Forest beat Millwall 1–0 that night through Barrie McKay’s first Forest goal, a long-range strike shortly before half-time. The display itself also became a landmark in modern supporter culture at the City Ground, setting the tone for later Forza Garibaldi displays that would become closely associated with big Forest occasions.
