McKay debut winner vs Millwall
On this day in 2017 Barrie McKay scores on his Forest debut in a win over Millwall.
Barrie McKay gave Forest’s 2017-18 Championship season an immediate lift with the only goal in a 1-0 win over Millwall at the City Ground.
It was opening night, and Mark Warburton handed full debuts to several new players, including McKay. Forest needed patience against a Millwall side that kept the game tight, but the breakthrough came shortly before half-time.
McKay scored with a powerful long-range finish, driving the ball beyond Jordan Archer to mark his debut with a decisive moment. It was the kind of goal that instantly introduced him to the home crowd and gave Forest something sharp to protect.
Millwall had chances to level after the break, and the match was not as comfortable as the scoreline might suggest. Forest held on, taking three points from a tight Championship opener.
McKay’s Forest career never fully became the long-term success that the debut promised, but this night remained his clearest early statement: a new winger, a new season, and a winning goal under the lights.
