Transfer embargo lifted with restrictions
On this day in 2015 Forest confirm their full transfer embargo has been lifted.
Forest received some administrative relief when the club confirmed that its full transfer embargo had been lifted.
The background was complicated. Forest had already been operating under Financial Fair Play restrictions after exceeding permitted losses, and a full embargo was then imposed over a missed instalment owed to Peterborough United for Britt Assombalonga.
The announcement meant Forest could register new players again, although the situation was not a complete return to normal. Financial Fair Play restrictions still remained, keeping the club under limits even after the full embargo had been eased.
The restrictions continued beyond that season. In May 2016, Forest said the Football League had confirmed that the transfer embargo would be lifted from the opening of the summer transfer window, finally giving the club a clearer route back to normal transfer activity.
