Green jumpers honour Brian Clough
On this day in 2014 Forest fans wear green jumpers for a Brian Clough tribute at Tottenham.
Nottingham Forest supporters travelling to Tottenham created one of the club’s more unusual Brian Clough tributes.
Fans on official club coaches were given replica green jumpers, a direct nod to one of Clough’s most recognisable touchline images. The gesture marked the tenth anniversary of his death and brought a visible Forest memory into an away end at White Hart Lane.
The match itself was a Capital One Cup third-round tie, and Forest lost 3-1 after taking the lead through Jorge Grant in the 61st minute. Tottenham came back through Ryan Mason, Roberto Soldado and Harry Kane, but the away following still carried the day’s Forest story.
For many fans, the image of Forest supporters in green jumpers said more than a formal ceremony could have done. It was affectionate, specific, and unmistakably connected to Clough.
