Doughty tributes follow sudden death
On this day in 2012 former Forest owner and chairman Nigel Doughty dies aged 54.
Nigel Doughty’s sudden death brought shock and sadness across Forest and the wider football community.
Doughty had been a major figure in the club’s modern history, owning Forest and serving as chairman from 1999 to 2011. His financial support had shaped a difficult period for the club, and his long association with Forest made the news far bigger than normal football debate.
The news that he had died aged 54 gave the club a moment of reflection. Tributes focused not only on his role at Forest, but also on his life in business, politics and charitable work.
For many supporters, the sadness came with a sense of perspective. Arguments about ownership and results were suddenly overtaken by the loss of a man who had carried a heavy responsibility at the club. The tributes that followed reflected both his importance to Forest and the human shock of his death.
