Defeat to Swansea ends play-off run
On this day in Nottingham Forest history in 2011 Forest lose at Swansea as the play-off run ends.
Nottingham Forest’s Championship play-off run ended with a 3-1 defeat away to Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium.
After a goalless first leg at the City Ground, the second leg carried all the pressure. Forest needed to stay composed, but Swansea struck twice in the first half and quickly moved the tie away from them.
Robert Earnshaw gave Forest hope with a goal in the 80th minute, reducing the deficit and briefly bringing the possibility of extra time back into view. Forest pushed forward, but the night ended painfully when Swansea scored from long range in stoppage time, catching the visitors exposed and sealing the tie.
The 3-1 scoreline sent Swansea through by the same aggregate margin. For Forest supporters, it was another painful play-off ending. The possibility had been there, especially after the first leg, but the final minutes in Swansea left only frustration and another season in the Championship.
