Win vs Leicester after relegation
On this day in 1999 Forest end a relegation season with victory over Leicester City.
Nottingham Forest closed a disappointing Premier League season with a 1-0 victory over Leicester City at the City Ground after relegation had already been confirmed.
The pressure had largely disappeared by the final match, yet the atmosphere still carried frustration after a difficult campaign. Forest played with greater freedom than they had shown during much of the season, and Chris Bart-Williams scored the decisive goal in the 76th minute.
Leicester competed strongly, but the tension normally associated with relegation battles had gone by that stage. The final whistle brought warm applause rather than real celebration.
Forest had ended the season with a derby victory, but the 1-0 win could not change the wider disappointment of relegation from the Premier League.
