FA Cup upset over Charlton
On this day in 2007 Forest beat Premier League Charlton in the FA Cup third round.
League One Nottingham Forest gave the City Ground a proper FA Cup afternoon by beating Premier League Charlton Athletic 2–0 in the third round.
Forest struck twice in the first half and never allowed Charlton to turn the tie into the awkward contest the division gap suggested it might become. Junior Agogo put Forest ahead in the 28th minute, finishing from close range after James Perch had created the opening.
Grant Holt doubled the lead soon afterwards, heading in Nicky Southall’s free-kick from close range. Those two goals gave Forest something firm to defend, and the home side managed the second half with enough discipline to keep Charlton at arm’s length.
The upset was a reminder that the FA Cup could still give Forest supporters days outside the rhythm of league struggle. The run did not go deep, with Chelsea ending it 3–0 in the fourth round, but the Charlton win gave the club one of its sharper cup memories from the League One years.
