Campbell winner boosts promotion push
On this day in 1997 Forest beat Birmingham City 1–0 as Kevin Campbell scores in their Division One promotion season.
Kevin Campbell gave Nottingham Forest a narrow but important 1–0 win over Birmingham City at the City Ground during the 1997–98 Division One promotion season.
Campbell scored the only goal of the match, stretching past Birmingham defender Darren Wassall to finish the chance. It was enough to turn a tight league fixture into another step forward for Forest.
The result was important because it came in a season built around returning to the Premier League. Forest were trying to re-establish themselves quickly, and Campbell’s finishing was a major part of the attacking threat that helped drive the campaign.
The win over Birmingham did not need a dramatic scoreline to feel useful. It gave Forest three points, kept the promotion push moving, and added another Kevin Campbell goal to a season that ended with the club going back up.
