Collymore sinks Man City
On this day in Nottingham Forest history in 1995 Forest beat Manchester City in a third-place Premier League season.
Nottingham Forest beat Manchester City 1-0 at the City Ground during one of the club’s finest Premier League seasons.
Frank Clark’s side had returned to the top flight and immediately looked comfortable at a level many expected to be difficult. By the time Manchester City arrived in May, Forest were not just surviving. They were chasing a third-place finish and a UEFA Cup place.
Stan Collymore scored the only goal after 18 minutes, finishing from a Colin Cooper assist. It was exactly the kind of contribution that defined his Forest spell: direct, decisive and capable of changing a tight game.
The 1-0 scoreline reflected a side confident enough to win without needing a spectacle. For the home crowd, the result added another layer to a remarkable campaign. Forest had come up from the second tier and were now beating established top-flight opponents on the way to Europe.
The afternoon felt controlled, professional and full of quiet pride.
