Keane secures semi win at Spurs
On this day in 1992 Forest reach the League Cup final after beating Tottenham.
Nottingham Forest reached another Wembley final under Brian Clough by beating Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 after extra time at White Hart Lane.
The League Cup semi-final had been finely balanced after the first leg, and the second leg demanded nerve as much as quality. Forest had to survive the pressure of playing away from home against a Tottenham side with its own cup pedigree, then find the moments that could carry them through.
Lee Glover gave Forest the lead with a left-footed finish before Gary Lineker equalised for Spurs. In extra time, Roy Keane headed in from a Gary Crosby corner, giving Forest the goal that decided the night.
The 2-1 win meant Forest went through 3-2 on aggregate, turning a difficult night in north London into another major cup achievement for Clough’s team. The victory sent Forest into the 1992 League Cup final against Manchester United, where they lost 1-0 at Wembley.
