Sheff Wed FA Cup 2-2 draw
On this day in 1930 Forest draw with Sheffield Wednesday in the FA Cup quarter-final.
Nottingham Forest kept their FA Cup hopes alive with a 2-2 draw against Sheffield Wednesday at the City Ground in the quarter-final.
A home quarter-final carried obvious weight. Forest were one match from the semi-finals, and Sheffield Wednesday arrived as strong opposition in an era when the FA Cup still dominated the football calendar. The 2-2 scoreline left the tie unresolved, but it also kept Forest in the competition after a demanding cup afternoon.
The result mattered because it showed Forest standing close to the final stages of the FA Cup, with the City Ground hosting one of the club’s bigger occasions of the period. A draw in a quarter-final was not enough to settle anything, but it gave supporters another match and another chance to dream.
The replay took place at Sheffield Wednesday four days later. Wednesday won 3-1, ending Forest’s run before the semi-finals, but the City Ground draw remained the moment when Forest had pushed the tie to a second meeting.
