Happy birthday Chris Wood! (born 1991)
On this day in Nottingham Forest history in 1991 Forest striker Chris Wood is born in Auckland.
Chris Wood was born in Auckland long before his name became tied to one of Forest’s sharpest Premier League scoring records.
The New Zealand striker reached Forest through a long English career, joining from Newcastle United in 2023. His early months were disrupted by injury, but he soon became a far bigger figure than many expected.
Wood’s Forest story changed quickly under Nuno Espírito Santo. He scored regularly through 2023-24, then kept climbing the club’s Premier League scoring list during the following season.
His record moment came at Old Trafford on his birthday in 2024, when he scored in the 3–2 win over Manchester United and moved beyond Bryan Roy as Forest’s leading Premier League goalscorer. That goal gave the birthday connection a neat football twist: the player born on 7 December later used the same date to write himself into Forest’s modern top-flight record book.
