Sheringham double in Palace 5-1 rout
On this day in 1991 Teddy Sheringham scores twice as Forest beat Crystal Palace 5–1 at the City Ground.
Teddy Sheringham led one of Forest’s most emphatic First Division afternoons of the early 1990s as Crystal Palace were beaten 5–1 at the City Ground.
Forest started sharply, with Sheringham scoring after six minutes before Stuart Pearce added a second. After half-time, Scot Gemmill and Ian Woan put Forest further ahead, and Sheringham completed his double from the penalty spot late on.
Palace had arrived as strong top-flight opponents, but Forest turned the match into a heavy home win with four different Forest scorers.
Sheringham’s double gave the day its headline. The 5–1 scoreline was not just a comfortable victory, but a reminder of the attacking quality Forest still carried in a season that would later include another Wembley final.
