Incredible 9-2 Port Vale win
On this day in 1935 Tom Peacock scores four as Forest beat Port Vale 9–2 in the Second Division at the City Ground.
Tom Peacock produced a four-goal centre-forward display as Forest overwhelmed Port Vale 9–2 at the City Ground in League Division Two.
The scoreline carried the force of an old-fashioned rout. Peacock struck in the 2nd, 33rd, 34th and 66th minutes, while William Simpson, Henry Race and Johnny Dent also joined in. Race and Dent both scored twice, turning the afternoon into a full forward-line demolition.
Vale briefly had something to hold on to when Trevor Rhodes scored in the 30th minute, but Forest were already 4–1 ahead by half-time. Arthur Caldwell added Vale’s second after the break, only for Forest to finish the game with three more late goals.
Vale’s own season records show how one-sided the match became, noting that the visitors were spared an even heavier defeat by goalkeeping resistance. Forest still reached nine, a total that made the afternoon stand out far beyond an ordinary league win.
For Forest, this was a result remembered through both the number and the name attached to it. A 9–2 victory already demanded attention, but Peacock’s four goals gave the match its lasting individual story.
