Keane scores at Norwich to reach semis
On this day in 1991 Forest beat Norwich to reach the FA Cup semi-finals.
Nottingham Forest moved within one match of Wembley by beating Norwich City 1-0 at Carrow Road in the FA Cup quarter-final.
The tie demanded control and patience. Away quarter-finals are rarely comfortable, and Forest had to handle the pressure of a knockout match with a semi-final place at stake. Brian Clough’s side found the result they needed, keeping Norwich out and doing enough at the other end to decide the match.
Roy Keane scored the only goal for Forest, finishing the chance that settled a tight cup tie. The goal gave Forest the edge at Carrow Road and carried them into the last four.
The victory became part of the road to the 1991 FA Cup final. Forest would eventually reach Wembley, where Tottenham Hotspur beat them 2-1, but the quarter-final win at Norwich was the result that took Clough’s team into the semi-finals.
