Hodge & Chapman sink Derby
On this day in 1989 Forest beat Derby away in the First Division.
Nottingham Forest earned a strong East Midlands derby win by beating Derby County 2-0 away in League Division One.
A victory at the Baseball Ground always carried extra satisfaction. Derby matches brought local pressure, and winning away from home gave Forest the kind of result supporters could enjoy well beyond the final whistle.
Steve Hodge opened the scoring after finishing off a superb through-ball from Gary Crosby, and Lee Chapman added the second for Forest. Hodge brought experience and quality, while Chapman’s goal added a sharp attacking presence to a derby result that belonged firmly to Forest.
The 2-0 win added another notable entry to Clough’s late-1980s side. Forest left Derby with the points, the clean sheet and the bragging rights from a rivalry fixture that always carried more than ordinary league value.
