Webb seals Simod Cup semi final
On this day in 1989 Forest beat Crystal Palace to reach the Simod Cup final.
Nottingham Forest reached the Simod Cup final with a 3–1 win over Crystal Palace at the City Ground.
Neil Webb gave Forest the lead after 14 minutes, but the semi-final was only settled late. Stuart Pearce scored in the 88th minute before Webb added his second a minute later, turning a tense finish into a 3–1 win.
The Simod Cup sat outside the traditional major trophies, but it still offered a Wembley final and a chance for Brian Clough’s side to turn a strong campaign into silverware. Forest treated the competition seriously enough to make the final step count.
The victory sent Forest to Wembley, where they beat Everton 4–3 after extra time in the final. Garry Parker and Lee Chapman both scored twice, giving Forest another memorable cup day under Clough.
