Davenport double at Tottenham

On this day in 1986 Davenport helps Forest win 3–0 away to Tottenham Hotspur in the First Division.

Iconic match memories

Well remembered match for any historically notable reason

Forest produced a clean and emphatic First Division away win by beating Tottenham Hotspur 3-0 at White Hart Lane.

The match was goalless at half-time, which made Forest’s second-half burst even more decisive. Peter Davenport broke the deadlock in the 47th minute, Colin Walsh added the second four minutes later, and Davenport scored again in the 69th minute to complete the win.

The result came against a Tottenham side featuring well-known names such as Glenn Hoddle, Osvaldo Ardiles, Steve Perryman and Chris Waddle.

For Brian Clough’s team, it was the kind of away result that stood out in a demanding top-flight season. Forest were not chasing the league title in the way they had during the late 1970s, but they still had enough quality and confidence to damage strong opponents.

The scoreline made the afternoon easy to remember. A 3-0 win at White Hart Lane was never routine, and Davenport’s second-half double gave the result its shape.
