Christie hat-trick routs Villa
On this day in Nottingham Forest history in 1984 Forest win 5–0 at Aston Villa as Trevor Christie scores a hat-trick.
Nottingham Forest delivered a ruthless First Division away performance by beating Aston Villa 5-0 at Villa Park.
Ian Bowyer opened the scoring, Trevor Christie scored a hat-trick, and Steve Hodge also found the net. Christie’s goals came in the second half, turning a strong away lead into an emphatic victory and giving the Forest forward the match ball.
The win took Brian Clough’s side to the top of the First Division in the early weeks of the 1984-85 season. A five-goal away win at Villa Park immediately demanded attention: five goals, a clean sheet, and a Forest forward producing one of the standout individual scoring days of the campaign.
For supporters, it was more than a good away day. It was a reminder that Forest could still produce devastating league performances in the years after the European Cup era, with Christie’s hat-trick making the result personal as well as emphatic.
