Robertson winner in title run
On this day in 1978 Forest beat Leicester during their title-winning season.
Nottingham Forest kept their First Division title charge moving with a 1-0 win over Leicester City at the City Ground.
By this stage of the 1977-78 season, every league result carried pressure. Forest had turned promotion momentum into a genuine championship challenge, and home matches against nearby opponents still had to be handled properly.
John Robertson scored the only goal from the penalty spot early in the first half. It was the kind of tight result that fitted the character of Brian Clough’s side that season: disciplined, patient and able to take enough from difficult afternoons.
The victory added another step to the title run. Forest beat Leicester, kept their position strong, and moved closer to one of the most remarkable league triumphs in English football history.
