Carrow Road dramatic draw in title run
On this day in 1978 Forest draw at Norwich City during the title-winning season.
Nottingham Forest were held to a dramatic 3–3 draw by Norwich City at Carrow Road during the 1977–78 First Division title run.
For much of the afternoon, Forest looked in command. Peter Withe scored after 17 minutes, Colin Barrett added another four minutes later, and Martin O’Neill made it 3–0 after 25 minutes. In a season built on control and consistency, the early lead seemed to fit the pattern.
Norwich, however, turned the match into a very different kind of memory. They fought back from three goals down, with two of their goals coming late, to rescue a point from a game that had appeared beyond them.
For Forest, the draw was frustrating but not damaging enough to derail the title charge. Brian Clough’s side kept moving through a season that ended with the club crowned champions of England, seven points clear of Liverpool.
