NOTTINGHAM FOREST HISTORY
Win over Blackburn promotion push
On this day in Nottingham Forest history in 1976 Forest beat Blackburn Rovers 3–0 during the Division Two promotion campaign.
Forest kept their promotion campaign moving with a clear 3–0 win over Blackburn Rovers at the City Ground in League Division Two.
Ian Bowyer opened the scoring early, giving Brian Clough’s side control of the afternoon. Peter Withe added the second after half-time, before Sean Haslegrave completed the win late on.
The result came during the season when Forest were beginning to gather the momentum that would take them back into the top flight. It was not yet the finished championship-winning side of the following year, but important pieces were already in place.
For supporters, wins like this mattered because they made promotion feel realistic. Forest were not just collecting points; they were building rhythm, confidence, and the hard edge that would soon carry the club into its most famous era.
